Preparing for a major exam may seem overwhelming. Feeling some pressure is expected but with the right plan in place you can feel in control. This post is intended for students that are sitting for SEC Computing this year. We hope you find this helpful.
Examination Format
Your overall grade is calculated after handing in your coursework and sitting for two formal examinations that are set by the examination board.
Paper 1 2hrs (40% weighting)
You should answer 10 to 15 short questions covering the core syllabus. All questions are compulsary.
Paper 2 2hrs (45% weighting)
Upon registering, you have a choice between option A and option B where B should be easier than Paper 1. In both cases, you should answer 5 long questions. All questions are compulsary.
Coursework (15% weighting)
This is completed at school and initially corrected by your teacher. Moderators from the examination board visit the school to have a final look at your work.
How much studying is required?
There is no denying that you have to put in the hours in order to prepare well. According to research conducted by universities world-wide the best students study for a whopping 50 hours a week. That is more intense than having a full-time job. In this post we are sharing with you a 30 Hour Study Plan with study sessions that start from as little as 15 minutes up to long 2 hour sessions, depending on the importance certain topics. Each study session maps to a particular part of the syllabus which you can cross reference.
